  • Studio vs. On-Location: Which Indianapolis Headshot Session is Right for You?

Studio vs. On-Location: Which Indianapolis Headshot Session is Right for You?

When you book a headshot in Indianapolis with me, the first question is usually where we’ll do it: in my studio, or at your office. Both give you the same coaching and the same professional retouching. What changes is the setting, the logistics and, for teams, how much of the workday it takes. Here’s how to choose.

    The short answer

    • Choose the studio if it’s just you, or a few people, and you want a calm, private session with time to focus.
    • Choose on-site if you’re booking for a team, or if leaving the office is the hard part. We bring the studio to you.

    Studio sessions

My studio in Indianapolis is set up for one thing: portraits. Light, background and the camera position are all under control, so the whole session can be about you.

    • Time to relax. No colleagues walking past, your own playlist, and room for conversation. Nervous or camera-shy clients usually prefer this.
    • Room for several looks. If you want outfit changes for your website, LinkedIn and speaking bios, the studio makes it easy. The Pro Session includes up to two outfits and the Premium Session up to six.
    • Weather doesn’t matter. Everything happens indoors, so nothing gets rescheduled because of rain or wind.

Best for: executives, attorneys, consultants, physicians, founders, and anyone building a personal brand.

    On-site sessions at your office

For teams, I bring a complete temporary studio to your workplace in Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Noblesville, Greenwood or elsewhere in the metro. We set up in a conference room or lobby, photograph your people one after another, then pack up.

    • Your people stay at work. Each person steps away for a short session and goes straight back to their desk.
    • A consistent team page. Everyone is photographed with the same lighting and background, so the portraits match from the first person to the last.
    • Instant selection. Each employee chooses their favorite image on the spot.
    • Coaching for everyone. The same expression coaching my private clients get, even in a short session.

Best for: teams of six or more, company website refreshes, and new-hire photos that need to match an existing team page.

For a closer look at how an on-site day runs, read the logistics of on-site corporate headshots.

    How the cost compares

Session prices are the same in both settings. On-site adds a fee for setting up the temporary studio, breaking it down and travel. It starts at $230 and depends on the distance to your office. For a team, that single fee is shared by everyone photographed that day, and teams of 20 or more qualify for sliding rates.

You can also mix both: leadership in the studio for a longer Pro Session, and the rest of the team on site with the Express Session. The full details are on the rates page.

Does on-site look as good as the studio?

Yes. We bring professional lighting and backdrops and build the same controlled setup in your space, so the portraits look like studio portraits. All we need from you is a quiet room with enough space for the lights and a backdrop.

    Frequently asked questions

    Do you photograph outdoors?

No. All sessions take place either in the studio or in a temporary studio we set up indoors at your office. That’s how we guarantee controlled light and consistent results.

Can one person book an on-site session?

Yes, though for one person the studio is usually simpler and avoids the on-location fee. On-site makes the most sense when several people are photographed the same day.

We hired new people after our team shoot. Can they match?

Yes. We keep your team’s lighting and background on file, so new employees can be photographed later and still match your team page.

    Not sure which one fits?

Tell us how many people and where you are, and we’ll recommend the right setup. As a headshot photographer in Indianapolis working in the studio and on site, I’ll help you choose what works best for you or your team.

  • Professional Headshots for Small Businesses in Zionsville and Noblesville

Professional Headshots for Small Businesses in Zionsville and Noblesville

In a smaller community, customers often choose a business because of the people behind it. Whether you run a boutique, a practice, a studio or a professional office in Zionsville, Noblesville or elsewhere north of Indianapolis, real portraits of you and your team help customers feel they know you before they walk in.

Real faces instead of stock photos

Stock images are easy to spot, and they say nothing about your business. A professional photo of the owner and the team shows customers who they’ll meet and makes your website, social media and marketing feel personal. For a local business competing with larger chains, personality is an advantage. Use it.

    Where small businesses use headshots

    • The “About” page of your website.
    • Your Google Business Profile and social media.
    • Local press, chamber of commerce listings and event programs.
    • Flyers, brochures and signage.

Delivered images can be used on all media, worldwide, for 10 years, renewable on request.

    The owner portrait

As an owner, you are the brand. A Pro Session gives you 30 minutes of coaching, up to two outfits and careful attention to details, so your portrait looks polished but still like you. If you need several images, for your website, social media and print, the Premium Session gives you six.

    Small teams

If you have a few employees, matching portraits make the business look established. I can photograph everyone in my studio in Indianapolis, or bring a temporary studio to your premises. For teams of six or more, the Express Session is the most efficient option. Read about consistent team headshots.

    Studio or on site?

For one or two people, the studio is usually simplest. For a larger team, bringing the studio to you saves everyone the trip. The on-location fee starts at $230 depending on distance. Read studio vs on-site sessions.

    Frequently asked questions

Do you travel to Zionsville and Noblesville?

Yes. I work on site across the Indianapolis metro, including Zionsville, Noblesville, Carmel, Fishers and Greenwood.

How should a small team dress?

Coordinated, not identical: similar levels of formality and solid colors that suit each person. See what to wear for your headshot.

  • Headshots for Tech and Startup Teams in Indianapolis

Headshots for Tech and Startup Teams in Indianapolis

Tech and startup teams don’t want the stiff corporate portrait of a decade ago. Founders, engineers, product and sales teams need headshots that look modern, natural and credible, for the company website, investor decks, LinkedIn and conference programs. Here’s how I approach headshots for tech professionals in Indianapolis.

    Natural, not stiff

The goal is a portrait that looks like you on a good day at work: relaxed, engaged, approachable. That usually means a genuine, relaxed smile, a slight angle and softer lighting. Expression coaching makes it look effortless, even for people who’d rather be anywhere else than in front of a camera. Read how to look more confident in photos.

    Smart casual, done well

    • Well-fitted knits, open-collar shirts or a casual blazer.
    • Solid colors or subtle textures; avoid logos, slogans and small busy patterns.
    • Hoodies and T-shirts can work if they’re your real work uniform, but choose clean, well-fitting ones in solid colors.

The key is consistency across the team, so agree on a general level of formality before the day. See what to wear for your headshot.

Backgrounds that fit a modern brand

Light gray or white backgrounds feel clean and current; a darker backdrop can suit founder and personal-branding portraits. Whatever you choose, use the same one for everyone on the team page. Read choosing the right background.

    Real people, not AI avatars

AI headshot apps are popular in tech, but they often change small details of your face. When investors, partners or new hires meet you, you should look like your photo. Read professional headshots vs DIY and AI.

    Growing teams

Startups hire quickly. We keep your lighting and background on file, so new team members can be photographed later and still match your existing team page. For a team day, I bring a temporary studio to your office or coworking space, and each person is away from their desk for only a short session.

    Frequently asked questions

Can founders get more images for press and fundraising?

Yes. The Premium Session gives you a full hour, up to six looks and six retouched images, useful for press, investor decks and speaking.

Do you work in coworking spaces?

Yes, as long as we can use a quiet room with enough space for lights and a backdrop.

  • Attorney Headshots in Indianapolis: Authority and Approachability

Attorney Headshots in Indianapolis: Authority and Approachability

For attorneys, a headshot does a specific job. Prospective clients are often worried, sometimes in crisis, and they want two things from their lawyer: competence and someone they can talk to. Your portrait on your firm’s website, in legal directories and on LinkedIn should communicate both.

    Authority without coldness

A stern, unsmiling portrait can make a lawyer look unapproachable; a big grin can undercut credibility. The answer is usually in between: a steady, direct gaze, eyes slightly narrowed rather than wide open, and a composed micro-smile. I photograph a range of expressions and we choose together on screen. Read how to look confident and approachable.

    Wardrobe

    • A well-fitted dark suit or blazer in navy or charcoal.
    • A crisp shirt or blouse in a solid, light or mid-tone color.
    • Minimal jewelry and a tie that’s aligned; I check both during the session.

Fit matters more than brand, and it shows most at the shoulders. See what to wear for your headshot.

    Background and lighting

A clean mid-gray or darker backdrop is classic for legal portraits and keeps attention on the face. Lighting with a little more contrast reads as serious and confident; softer light reads as warmer. For family law or personal injury, where empathy matters, softer often fits best. For corporate or litigation practices, a little more contrast can suit.

    For law firms: consistency

Clients compare attorneys on your website. Mismatched portraits, taken years apart by different photographers, make a firm look less organized than it is. I can bring a temporary studio to your office in Indianapolis and photograph partners, associates and staff with identical lighting and backgrounds. Partners can book longer Pro Sessions on the same day, and we keep the setup on file for new associates.

    Where you’ll use it

Firm bio pages, legal directories, LinkedIn, speaking programs, articles and press. Every session delivers files prepared for web and print, and delivered images can be used on all media for 10 years.

    Frequently asked questions

How often should attorneys update their headshot?

Whenever it no longer looks like you, and whenever you change firms or titles. Returning clients can book a refresh session.

Can you photograph our whole firm on one day?

Yes. The Express Session is designed for teams of six or more, with sliding rates from 20 people. See the rates page.

  • Real Estate Headshots in Carmel, Fishers and Indianapolis

Real Estate Headshots in Carmel, Fishers and Indianapolis

For a real estate agent, a headshot works harder than for almost anyone else. It’s on your listings, your signs, your brokerage profile, your business cards and every social post. Buyers and sellers often see your face before they hear your voice. If you work in Carmel, Fishers or anywhere in the Indianapolis area, here’s what makes a realtor headshot work.

    Approachable first

Clients are trusting you with one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Your headshot needs to say “competent” and, above all, “easy to talk to.” That usually means a warm, genuine smile that reaches the eyes, relaxed shoulders and a slight angle rather than a square, formal pose. Expression coaching is part of every session. Read how to look confident and approachable.

    Look like you do today

Clients should recognize you when you open the door. Use a recent photo that matches your current hairstyle and look, and update it when that changes. Returning clients can book a refresh session whenever they need one.

    Dress for a showing

Wear what you’d wear to meet clients at a property: polished, but not stiff. A blazer with an open collar, a solid top in a color that suits you, or a well-fitted jacket works well. Avoid busy patterns that distract on small listing thumbnails. See what to wear for your headshot.

    Think about every format

Your headshot will be printed on signs, cropped into circles on social media and shown tiny on listing portals. A clean background, good contrast and enough space around your head let the same image work everywhere. Every session delivers files prepared for web and print.

    One image or several?

Many agents benefit from more than one image: a classic headshot for listings and your brokerage, plus a warmer or more casual option for social media. The Premium Session gives you up to six looks and six retouched images.

    For brokerages and teams

If you run a team or an office, matching headshots make your agents look like one brand. I can bring a temporary studio to your office and photograph everyone with the same lighting and background. Read about consistent team headshots.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use my headshot on signs and printed marketing?

Yes. Delivered photos include the right to use them on all media, worldwide, for 10 years, renewable on request.

Do you come to offices in Carmel and Fishers?

Yes. I work in my studio in Indianapolis and on site across the metro, including Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Noblesville and Greenwood. The on-location fee starts at $230 depending on distance.

  • Hair and Makeup Tips for Your Professional Headshot

Hair and Makeup Tips for Your Professional Headshot

Professional headshots are photographed with sharp lenses and studio light, so small details show. The goal isn’t a dramatic new look. It’s you, polished: the version of you that people will recognize when they meet you. Here’s how to prepare your hair, skin and makeup.

    Hair

    • Wear your hair the way you usually do. A headshot should look like you on a good day, not like a special occasion.
    • Cut a week before, not the day before, so it has time to settle.
    • Tame flyaways. A little smoothing product helps, especially in humid weather. I also watch for flyaways during the session and fix what I can on set.
    • Bring a brush or comb. We’ll do quick touch-ups between shots.

On-set hair refinement is part of every Pro and Premium Session.

    Makeup

    • Keep it natural but slightly more defined than everyday. Studio light can flatten features a little.
    • Use matte products. Shimmer and strong highlighter reflect light and can look like shine on camera.
    • Even skin tone, not heavy coverage. Retouching takes care of small blemishes, so you don’t need to cover everything.
    • Define brows and lashes lightly. They frame the eyes, which are the focus of a headshot.
    • Bring powder and lip color for touch-ups during the session.

If you work with a makeup artist, ask for a natural, camera-ready look rather than evening makeup.

    For men

    • Shave or trim on the morning of the session, or keep your beard neatly shaped. If you usually have stubble, keep it.
    • Control shine. A matte moisturizer or a little blotting powder makes a visible difference under studio light.
    • Check eyebrows and stray hairs. Small details show at high resolution.

    Skin and grooming

    • Drink water and get a good night’s sleep before the session.
    • Avoid trying new skin products or treatments in the days before, in case of a reaction.
    • Moisturize lips, and bring lip balm.

What retouching does and doesn’t do

Every final image is professionally retouched. Retouching evens skin, softens temporary blemishes and cleans up flyaways, while keeping your features natural. It doesn’t reshape your face or change who you are, and it can’t fix an expression, which is why we focus on getting that right during the session.

Hair and grooming is one of the seven elements I control in every session; see how they come together on my headshot photographer in Indianapolis page. For clothing advice, read what to wear for your headshot.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is a makeup artist included?

No. Pro and Premium Sessions include on-set hair refinement and grooming checks. If you’d like professional makeup, book it before your session and ask for a natural, camera-ready look.

Should I wear makeup if I usually don’t?

A little powder to control shine is enough. Your headshot should look like you.

  • What to Wear for Professional Headshots: An Indianapolis Style Guide

What to Wear for Professional Headshots: An Indianapolis Style Guide

Your clothes should frame your face, not compete with it. In a headshot, only your shoulders and upper chest are visible, so a few details matter a lot: color, pattern, neckline and fit. Here’s the advice I give every client before their session.

    Colors

    • Solid, mid-tone colors are the safest choice. Navy, charcoal, deep green, burgundy, soft blue and muted jewel tones work well on most people.
    • Choose colors that suit your skin tone. If people often compliment you in a certain color, bring it.
    • Be careful with pure white and pure black. Bright white can draw the eye away from your face, and black can lose detail. Both can work as a layer under a jacket.
    • Think about the background. If you know your company’s team page uses a light background, a mid-tone or darker outfit will stand out better.

For more on how color affects the image, read choosing the right colors for your headshot.

    Patterns and textures

Small, tight patterns such as fine stripes, small checks and narrow herringbone can create a shimmering effect on screens called moiré. Large or busy prints pull attention from your face. Subtle texture, like a knit, wool or a matte fabric, adds depth without distraction. When in doubt, choose a solid.

    Necklines and collars

    • A neckline that frames the face works best: crew necks, V-necks, open collars and structured collars.
    • Very low or very high necklines can look awkward in a tight crop.
    • For shirts, make sure the collar is crisp and sits evenly. I’ll check it during the session.

    Fit

Fit matters more than brand. A jacket that’s too big looks boxy at the shoulders, and one that’s too tight pulls at the buttons. Try your outfit on sitting down: that’s how many headshots are taken.

    By industry

    • Legal and finance: a dark suit or blazer, a crisp shirt, minimal accessories.
    • Real estate and client-facing roles: polished but warmer; a blazer with an open collar or a soft color often works best.
    • Healthcare: scrubs or a white coat if that’s how patients see you, or business attire for leadership roles.
    • Tech and creative: smart casual; a well-fitted knit, an open-collar shirt or a jacket without a tie.

    Accessories and glasses

Keep jewelry simple: small earrings, a watch, a thin necklace. Nothing that moves, reflects strongly or draws the eye. If you wear glasses every day, wear them in your headshot so people recognize you; I position them to minimize glare. Ties are welcome, and I’ll make sure they’re aligned.

    Bring options

The Pro Session includes up to two outfits and the Premium Session up to six. Bring a few choices on hangers, and we’ll pick the best one together during the session. Wardrobe is one of the seven elements I control in every session; see them on my headshot photographer in Indianapolis page.

    Frequently asked questions

    Should I wear a suit?

Wear what your clients expect to see when they meet you. If you wear a suit to meetings, wear one in your headshot.

Can I change after the session if I’m not happy with my outfit?

That’s why we review images on screen as we go. If an outfit isn’t working, we switch early.

Ready for a headshot that looks like you on your best day?

Every session includes expression coaching and professional retouching, in my studio in Indianapolis or at your office. See sessions and rates, or tell us what you need and we’ll help you plan it.

  • Consistent Team Headshots: Why They Matter and How We Do It

Consistent Team Headshots: Why They Matter and How We Do It

Visit a company’s “Our Team” page and you can tell in a second whether the portraits were planned. Different backgrounds, lighting, crops and expressions make a team look disconnected, even when the people are excellent. Matching portraits do the opposite: they make a company look organized and established before anyone reads a word.

    What makes team headshots consistent

    • The same background for everyone.
    • The same lighting, so skin tones and contrast match from portrait to portrait.
    • The same camera height, crop and framing, so faces sit at the same size and position on the page.
    • A coordinated level of formality: everyone in jackets, or everyone smart casual.
    • Expressions in the same range. Not identical, but no one looking stern next to a colleague in a full grin.

    Why it’s worth it

    • Your website looks professional. A unified team page signals that the company pays attention to detail.
    • Clients can put faces to names. On proposals, bios and LinkedIn, consistent portraits make your people recognizable.
    • It’s easier for your marketing team. Images that match can be used together anywhere, from the website to presentations.

How I keep a team consistent

When I photograph a team, I bring a temporary studio to your office and set it up once, in a conference room or lobby. Everyone is photographed with the same backdrop, lights and camera position. Each person gets the same expression coaching my private clients receive, then chooses their favorite image on the spot.

For leadership, we can add longer Pro Sessions in the same setup, so executives get more time and more options while still matching the rest of the team. See how an on-site day runs in the logistics of on-site corporate headshots.

    New hires, same look

Teams change. We keep your team’s lighting and background on file, so new employees can be photographed later, individually, and still match your existing team page.

Tips for planning your team day

    • Share a short wardrobe note with your team in advance. See what to wear for your headshot.
    • Book a quiet room with enough space for lights and a backdrop.
    • Schedule people in short, staggered time slots so nobody waits around.
    • Decide on the background with your marketing team before the day.

    Frequently asked questions

How many people can you photograph in a day?

It depends on the session type and your schedule. The Express Session takes 15 minutes per person. Tell us your team size and we’ll plan the day with you.

What does a team session cost?

Express Sessions are $160 per person for teams of six or more, plus an on-location fee from $230 depending on distance. Teams of 20 or more qualify for sliding rates. See the rates page.

  • On-Site Corporate Headshots: How a Team Day Works

On-Site Corporate Headshots: How a Team Day Works

Bringing a photographer into your office for team headshots raises practical questions: how much space do we need, how long will people be away from their desks, and how do we keep everyone’s portrait consistent? Here’s how an on-site day works with me, from planning to delivery.

    1. Planning

    • Team size and session type. Most teams use the Express Session, 15 minutes per person for teams of six or more. Leadership can book longer Pro Sessions on the same day.
    • Background and style. We agree on a backdrop and a level of formality that fit your brand and your website.
    • Wardrobe note. We share simple guidance you can send to your team in advance. See what to wear for your headshot.
    • Schedule. You book people into short, staggered time slots so nobody waits around.

    2. The space

We need a quiet room with enough space for lights and a backdrop, such as a conference room, an empty office or a corner of a lobby. We arrive ahead of the first appointment to set up a complete temporary studio, so the first person is photographed on time.

    3. The sessions

Each person steps in, gets a short round of expression and posing coaching, and goes back to work. Everyone is photographed with the same lighting, background and camera position, so the portraits match. With instant selection, each employee chooses their favorite image on the spot, which saves your team a round of emails afterward.

    4. After the day

We pack up and leave the room as we found it. Selected images are professionally retouched and delivered with files ready for your website, LinkedIn and print. We keep your setup on file, so new hires can be photographed later and still match.

    What it costs

Express Sessions are $160 per person for teams of six or more. On-location adds a fee for setup, breakdown and travel, starting at $230 depending on distance, and teams of 20 or more qualify for sliding rates. For example, ten people in Indianapolis come to about $1,830, studio included. See the rates page.

    Where we work

On site across the Indianapolis metro, including Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Noblesville and Greenwood, and for larger projects in Chicago, Milwaukee, Louisville, Cincinnati and Columbus.

    Frequently asked questions

Can people who miss the day be photographed later?

Yes. Because we keep the lighting and background on file, they can be photographed later and still match.

Do you photograph outdoors or around the office?

No. We set up a controlled indoor studio so every portrait is consistent.

Read more about consistent team headshots, or see my work on the headshot photographer in Indianapolis page.

    Planning a team headshot day?

Tell us how many people and where your office is, and we’ll send a tailored quote. As a corporate photographer in Indianapolis, I’ll handle the rest.

  • How to Look More Confident in Photos (Even if You’re Camera-Shy)

How to Look More Confident in Photos (Even if You’re Camera-Shy)

If you dread having your picture taken, you’re in good company. Many of the professionals I photograph in Indianapolis start their session by telling me they’re not photogenic. Here’s the reassuring part: looking confident in a photo is a set of small physical techniques, and you don’t have to figure them out alone.

    1. The squinch

Most people widen their eyes in front of a camera, which reads as surprised or anxious. Gently raising the lower eyelids, without squinting, makes the eyes look focused and self-assured. It’s one of the quickest changes I make in a session.

    2. The jawline extension

When we’re nervous, we pull our head back, which softens the jaw. Bringing the face slightly forward and tipping the chin down a touch defines the jawline. It feels strange and looks natural, which is why someone needs to guide it from behind the camera.

    3. The micro-smile

A big, posed smile often looks forced. A micro-smile, relaxed, closed or slightly open, warms the face while still looking composed. The key is that it reaches the eyes. I photograph a range, from serious to a full smile, so you can choose.

    4. Posture and hands

Drop your shoulders away from your ears, sit or stand tall, and breathe out just before the shot. Slightly angling your body instead of facing the camera squarely looks more relaxed. If your hands are in the frame, give them something natural to do rather than letting them hang.

    5. Movement and music

Stillness makes people stiff. Small movements between shots, conversation and your own playlist keep the face relaxed. In the studio, I ask clients what they’d like to listen to.

    6. Let someone direct you

The single biggest help for camera-shy people is clear direction. When you know exactly what to do with your face and shoulders, the guesswork, and most of the nerves, disappear. That’s what expression coaching is: guided variations, one adjustment at a time, reviewed together on screen.

    7. Trust the retouching, within limits

Professional retouching handles temporary blemishes, flyaways and small distractions, so you don’t have to worry about them during the session. It can’t create an expression, which is why we focus on capturing a genuine one.

These techniques are part of the seven elements I control in every session; see them on my headshot photographer in Indianapolis page. For more detail on the face, read how to look confident and approachable in your headshot.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the studio better than on-site for camera-shy people?

Often, yes. The studio is private and quiet, with time to relax. Read studio vs on-site sessions.

What if I hate every photo?

You see the images on screen throughout the session, so we adjust as we go until you see one you like.

Camera-shy? You’re exactly who I love to photograph.

Every session includes expression coaching, in my studio in Indianapolis or at your office. See sessions and rates, or tell us what you need.
